Great news!  This is easier than you think!

More great news!  Once you get your movie onto the web, it's really easy to put it in your wiki.  But, that's not all!  You can also email the web link to friends that may not want to spend a bunch of time on your family wiki...that's what I did with the short movie I made for this wiki that is nothing but pictures from my wedding day.  We had a really small wedding, so this was a great opportunity for me to share it with everyone else we care about.  And try to make up for the fact that they weren't invited!

If you've clicked on my past two movie clips, you'll notice two things.  The first is the difference that transitional video effects make in the end product--I didn't use any for the wedding video, but did for the family video.  The second thing you'll notice is that they are all on YouTube.  I found this a really easy way to store my videos for the wiki, and for free!

Get a YouTube account It's fast and easy, just go to YouTube and click "Sign Up". You'll need to enter in a username and password, and also your email address so that you can activate your account.

Upload your videos!

Once you are logged in, you will see an "Upload Videos" icon near the top right corner of your screen.  Click that.

you will be taken to a different screen where you will enter in the title, description, video category (I used people/blogs for mine), and tags.  Tags are little code words you put in so that people searching for videos will find yours.  Next, click "Upload Video" from the bottom left of your screen.  Find the file you want to upload, and just wait!

Once it is uploaded, it takes a little bit to process completely so that the world can see it.  Just give it a few minutes and check back, or go to "My Account" and then "My Videos" to find it.  When you click on your video, you will have the URL that you'll need for emailing the link to people and the "Embed" option will be in the top right (you'll need that for putting it on your wiki).  It will look like this

That's it!  You're done!  Here is what it will look like when you play it from the youtube.com site.  This is one shot from the Our Story movie that I created using mostly scanned photographs, but a few digitals, too.   If you want the video to fill up your computer screen, go to the movie's tool bar (the same place as where the play and stop icons are) and click on the icon that is the furthest to the right on that same bar.  It kind of looks like a grey box.  That will display the movie as big as your monitor is--you can just hit the Escape key on your keyboard if you want to go back to viewing it small.
